Serving Commitment

Good News Kids Values:

Good for Everyone : We believe that each child is important to God. Whether we encounter them in the neighborhood or in our building, we desire to provide a safe + engaging environment to show them the good news. Romans 12:16, Galatians 6:10

Good to Each Other : We want an atmosphere of tangible love at Good News Kids. We encourage volunteers to be kind to the children, to redirect when needed + to bring restoration gently. We desire to partner with your families to grow kids in faith + character. John 13:35, Galatians 6:1

Good with Our Bibles : Good News Kids will teach the stories of scripture, memorize God's Word + apply the truth to the children's lives at an age appropriate level through hands-on activities + conversations. 1 Timothy 4:16, 2 Timothy 2:15

Good for God : We strive to have a team and atmosphere that exudes the joy and abundant love of Christ. John 10:10, Ecclesiastes 3:12-13

Ministry Procedures

1. Personal Interaction with Children: For the protection of all, volunteer/staff should never be alone with a child anywhere. Children should never be alone with each other. Everything we do in ministry, we do as a community.
2. Abuse or Neglect: Child abuse is the mistreatment of a child under the age of 18. If child abuse or neglect is suspected you must immediately notify Good News Kids Staff. Illinois State Law requires Good News in the Neighborhood staff to report suspected abuse or neglect immediately to the Department of Child and Family Services.
3. Bathroom Supervision: At least two adults must be present for bathroom use. Check the bathroom first to make sure that the bathroom is empty, and then allow the children inside holding open door with body. Do not leave children unsupervised but do not enter bathroom. Allow one child per stall only. Only females supervise girls.
For children under five years old:
• Female adult volunteers/staff may change the diaper of a child whose age falls within the guidelines stated in the policy manual. Diaper changing must occur in an open, semi-public area.
• If a child is taking longer than seems necessary, open the bathroom door and call the child's name. If a child requires assistance, ask for help from support team and only assist when other non-related adult is present.
For children over five years old:
• Never assist with personal care and never enter the bathroom.
For those under 21 years old with diagnosed special needs:
• Personal care is only allowed when two unrelated adults are involved and situation is documented with immediate communication to legal guardian.
